Consultation
The consultation is a great opportunity for us to get
to know one another, for you to tell me about your aspirations
and past history and also ask any burning questions that
you may have. I will also explain what your fitness programme
may entail. It is completely free, confidential and you
are under absolutely no obligation.
I will review with you the questionnaires that you will
have filled in and returned to me prior to the consultation
relating to your medical history, your exercise history,
lifestyle and goals, which can be viewed on the ‘Forms’ page.
From this, I will be able to design an exercise programme
tailored specifically for you.
I will also carry out a health check to ensure that there
are no obvious medical problems before you exercise. This
check comprises measuring:
- Height
- Weight
- Resting heart rate
- Blood pressure
- Body Composition (body fat %) – N.B.
This is completely non invasive and is taken
when you stand
on the weighing scales.
- The range of motion
of your joints – This may not be carried
out on all people.
Please don’t be daunted by this. I will explain
every part in full and everything is completely confidential.
The measurements will be placed in your file so that I
can monitor your progress.
Together with the questionnaires, I may identify something
that requires GP clearance before a fitness programme begins
and I will correspond with your GP if you so wish.
The consultation can take place at your home,
my home in Stow-cum-Quy or at Banana Fitness, Abbey Pools
Cambridge,
wherever you feel most relaxed. If you choose Banana Fitness,
I can also give you a guided tour of the facilities.
Programme
Design
There is no such thing as “One size fits all” when
it comes to programme design.
As previously mentioned, your
programme will be specifically tailored for you and will
take into account:
- Your goals
- Your medical history
- My health findings
- Your activity history
- Your leisure pursuits
- Your work
- Your diet
- Your likes and dislikes
- The time you have available
- Your energy levels
- Your gender
This will make the programme safe and also be more effective
to what you are hoping to achieve.
The programme will include different components of exercise
including cardiovascular, resistance and flexibility work
and also strict rest periods.
The programme will also have different stages between
4 and 6 weeks. This is how long it takes your body to adapt
to something new. At each stage I will review your programme
to take you up to the next level.
Putting it into Practice!
On average, if a programme is stuck to with good technique,
it will take around 12 weeks for you to see some obvious
results. That’s not long!!
The aim will be for you to exercise regularly at least
three times a week, each session being between 20 and 60
minutes in length. It is of course entirely up to you how
often you see me and is something that will be discussed
in your consultation.
At first, finding time in your hectic lifestyle may seem
impossible but with good organisation and commitment anything
is possible! I bet you thought that you would never have
time for children or a pet until they came along? You made
space and time for them because you are dedicated to them.
You deserve the same dedication!
I find that the best way to find time is to take your
diary and at least weekly, make a daily plan. Make a note
of what you have to do, when and how long do you think
it will take? Find slots and make appointments to exercise – write
them down. It will feel great, crossing off each exercise
session. If you really can’t make a session, do what
you would normally do with an appointment – reschedule.
At the end of the day, I am always here to keep you on
track!
Assessments
These are very much like the consultation at our initial
meeting and again are free. At every stage (4-6 weeks),
I will carry out another health check in order to monitor
your progress and to ensure that you are ready to progress
to the next level. This also gives us a good opportunity
to discuss how you are getting on but of course you are
very welcome to talk to me at anytime.
